Brazilian Film Festival gets new edition in CinemaPlus

The Brazilian Film Festival returns to Baku. From October 30th to November 3rd, the second consecutive edition of the event will be held at CinemaPlus, at Deniz Mall. The festival is a partnership between Linhas Cultural Production, the Brazilian Embassy in Baku and the CinemaPlus network. This year, 5 contemporary films from the most diverse genres were selected. The screenings always take place at 7pm.

On the 30th, Monday, the novel Eduardo and Monica will be shown in the opening session. The film is based on the song of the same name, by a Brazilian rock band that rocked many generations from the 80s onwards. Directed by René Sampaio, Eduardo and Monica shows the romance of a very different couple, but who were born together for each other. another to move people of all ages. They fall madly in love despite differences in culture, age and even tastes. The film, which has already won international festivals, stars actress Alice Braga, also famous for her work in Hollywood in films such as Elysium, with Matt Damon and Jodie Foster, and Eu Sou a Lenda, with Will Smith and Gabriel Leone, a young revelation of Brazilian cinema.

On Tuesday, the 31st, it will be the turn of the film The Truths, a fictional drama. A police officer seeks to solve a crime that occurred in a small town in the Brazilian backlands. The story is told from three points of view: a hired killer, a bride and a businessman. Everything with lots of action, suspense and mysteries that also involve the relationship between the police officer and his fiancée.

On Wednesday, the 1st, the documentary Elis & Tom – will be shown. Maestro and composer Tom Jobim was one of the greatest geniuses in world music, famous for his partnership in “Girl from Ipanema”. Elis Regina was one of the greatest interpreters of Brazilian music. The documentary goes behind the scenes of the recording of the duo's album, in Los Angeles, in 1974 – material that was unreleased until this year. On Thursday, the 2nd, it's the turn of Pixinguinha – A Caring Man, a biographical film about the life and work of Alfredo da Rocha Vianna Filho, known as Pixinguinha, one of Brazil's most admired artists of the century 20. The film portrays important moments in his life, from the beginning of his career at the age of 14, his time in Paris with his group and his relationship with his wife.

On Friday, the 3rd, the closing session shows the drama inspired by real events Pureza, which won several international awards. The movie shows the desperate search of a mother for her son who left to work in a mine in the Amazon and was never heard from again. She travels through cities, enters farms and discovers a cruel system of recruiting and imprisoning rural workers. Inspired by the true story of Pureza Lopes Loyola, whose struggle inspired the creation of the Special Mobile Inspection Group, the first action in Brazil's history to combat slave labor throughout the national territory.

For the Brazilian ambassador in Baku, Manuel Montenegro, holding the festival for the second year in a row is unequivocal proof of the success of Brazilian cinema and the interest of the Azerbaijan people in our culture. “We believe that cinema is one of the best ways for the most diverse people to get to know the culture of a country in greater depth. Last year we already noticed great interest from the Azerbaijani people, as the rooms was really crowed for the first edition of the festival. We want to offer everyone a little more of our essence through films, from the most diverse genres”, he highlights.

According to Fernanda Bulhões, director of Linhas Cultural Production, one of the festival's main concerns is to bring together not only recent films, but also to offer the Azerbaijani public a mix of emotions and genres that showcase the quality and diversity of the productions. “This year, in particular, the public will be see impactful stories, based on real life, such as Pureza, but will also get to know great icons of our music, such as Tom Jobim, Elis Regina and Pixinguinha. Lovers of Brazilian cinema and culture, in particular, will have great surprises and emotions,” she says.
